Dr. Shanea D. Parker graduated from Hampton University School of Pharmacy in 2004. Upon completing her Doctor of Pharmacy degree, she worked as a retail and clinical pharmacist. When asked why she chose pharmacy, she reflects back to her younger years working as a cashier for Farm Fresh pharmacy. She says, “I admired the way [the Pharmacist] cared for the patients and the level of knowledge she had”. After being encouraged to look further into the profession, she applied to both Hampton University and Howard University schools of pharmacy. Then after a visit to Hampton, she fell in love with the campus and the family-like environment; she knew then this was the place for her.
She has recently returned to Hampton University as an Assistant Professor in the School of Pharmacy. Dr. Parker found while serving as a preceptor for the school, she really enjoyed the interaction with the students and the gratification of giving back. This year will be her first full academic year with hopes of many more to come. Her long-term goal is to become an Associate Professor for Hampton University. Her advice to the current pharmacy students is to be “forward thinkers” and to not become complacent with being mediocre.
