Wanda M. Azu Owoh is a 3rd year professional student at Hampton University School of Pharmacy from Columbia, South Carolina by way of Aba, Nigeria. During her undergraduate career, she served as a Student Government Association Senator, Academic Tutor and a member of both the Freshmen Executive Council and Sophomore Executive Council. In the School of Pharmacy she is heavily involved in the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists as the Chapter President and an active member of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society. Wanda has also spent her time at Hampton University serving as an advocate of culture acceptance regarding the continent of Africa. Her passion in creating a more culturally aware campus environment allowed her to serve as the President of the Pre-Alumni African Students Association from 2013 to 2014. As a result of her involvement, she is currently developing African Hearted, a non-profit organization to further promote cultural competence to the youth. Wanda Azu Owoh will be graduating from Hampton University School of Pharmacy in May 2017 with her Doctorate in Pharmacy. Upon graduation, she would like to pursue a post-graduate residency.

Victoria

As a vibrant student pharmacist at Hampton University’s School of Pharmacy, Victoria Spence is an energetic third year professional student from Anchorage Alaska. After completing an accelerated gifted mentorship program in clinical pharmacy at Providence Alaska Medical Center, Victoria was inspired to enter the world of pharmacy. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Hampton University as a pre-pharmacy major, in which she completed the two year program. She was then accepted into Hampton University’s School of Pharmacy in the fall of 2013 and will graduate in May of 2017. Victoria is actively involved in her community with participation in a variety of professional and academic organizations. She is a graduate of the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute as well as an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Within Hampton’s School of Pharmacy, she serves as Chapter Delegate for the Student National Pharmacists Association, and the Vice President of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists. In addition to her extracurricular activities, she is employed with CVS Health as a pharmacy intern.  Victoria aspires to earn a Master of Business Administration degree upon graduation from Hampton University. Her ultimate goal is to one day establish and own an all female medical plaza and spa.

Christina

Christina Jones is a second year pharmacy student from Williamsburg, Virginia. She will serve this academic school year as the President Elect for Hampton University’s Chapter of APhA-ASP. Christina Jones is a hardworking student who desires to not only excel through her pharmacy coursework but to excel through her extracurricular activities. She aims to obtain the skills necessary to become a pioneer pharmacist in medication therapy management. Christina developed her interest in pharmacy at the age of five. Since then, her passion for pharmacy has continued to grow and her aspiration to help others has evolved. Christina Jones will graduate from Hampton University’s School of Pharmacy in 2018. Christina hopes to continue to serve her community and make a long-lasting impact on Hampton University’s Chapter of APhA-ASP as well as the people around her.

Aranyce Whitaker was born and raised in Houston, Texas. As a current 3rd year pharmacy student at Hampton University, she strives to be a life changer. She not only puts effort in pharmacy school but also participates in several organizations. For the second consecutive year, she will be the Historian for the Hampton Chapter of SNPhA (Student National Pharmaceutical Association). Aranyce serves as the American Pharmacists Associastion-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) Vice President of Membership. Ms.Whitaker looks forward to participating in many community-based activities. She recognizes that making a difference is strengthened in numbers; therefore her goal for APhA-ASP is to elevate membership and boost participation. Furthermore she wants to increase morale and camaraderie by exciting members through social events. Although APhA-ASP is comprised of different operations, Aranyce would like to continue to unify the organization.

Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, Maya Patterson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2013. During her tenure, she was heavily involved in the community and numerous student organizations. She served as Vice President and Secretary of UNCG Biology club, Vice President of Circle K International and as a mentor with E.B.O.N.Y (Empower and Building Opportunities in Yourself). She prides herself on being a good role model and leader in the community.

Ms. Patterson is currently a third year pharmacy student here at Hampton University.  During her past two years she has been an active member in several school organizations, holding leadership roles in Hampton University’s Chapter of Student National Pharmaceutical Association and participating in countless community service activities. This upcoming school year, she will serve as Historian for Hampton University’s Chapter of American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists with plans of creating a school newspaper. She looks forward to the exciting events to come with APhA and hopes that this year she will grow both as a student and a leader in the community. Maya Patterson will graduate in May 2017.

Charmi Patel is a 3rd year professional pharmacy student at Hampton University. She was born in India and currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Prior to beginning her education at Hampton University, Charmi pursued a Bachelor’s of Science with a major in Biology at Old Dominion University. Charmi currently serves as the Chapter Finance Vice President of the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP). She is also actively involved in other organizations and serves as the Power to End Stroke Committee Chairperson of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) and the Vice-President of the Rho Chi Society – Gamma Xi chapter of Hampton University. Charmi is also a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). Upon graduation with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May 2017, Charmi aspires to seek a post-graduate residency and aims at positively impacting public health.

Starr T. Shands is a 2nd year professional student at Hampton University School of Pharmacy from Stony Creek, Virginia. As a pre-pharmacy student, Starr was involved in various clubs and organizations that included the Student Recruitment Team, Pre-Pharmacy Club, Student National Pharmaceutical Association and the African Students Association. As a professional pharmacy student, she is involved by currently serving as the Publicist of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) and President-Elect of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA). In her free time, she enjoys to volunteer, read, and travel. Starr will graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) in May 2018 and would like to work in community pharmacy. As a community pharmacist, Starr would like to counsel patients on prescription drugs in order to provide ample patient care.

Rachel

Rachel Allman is a 2nd year professional student at Hampton University School of Pharmacy and completed her pre-pharmacy courses at Thomas Nelson Community College. Rachel Allman is the Secretary for the Hampton University chapter of the American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists. She hopes to fulfill her duties as secretary by taking minutes at all meetings to ensure members are well informed about upcoming events. She volunteers with the American Red Cross and participates in APhA-ASP’s “We Are Victorious” HIV/AIDS campaign as well as SNPhA’s Step Out Against Diabetes campaign. Rachel was born and raised in Bellaire, Michigan and moved to Hampton, Virginia due to her husband being in the Navy and stationed in the area. Rachel wanted to become a pharmacist after working at a retail pharmacy and observing the integral the role of a pharmacist in healthcare. Rachel looks forward to interacting and developing trusting relationships with her patients. After graduating in 2018, Rachel hopes to be a pharmacist in a retail setting.

Neshae Ashford is currently a student at Hampton University School of Pharmacy, in her 2nd professional year, hailing from Colombia, South Carolina. Before entering pharmacy school, she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Hampton University. During her undergraduate term, she served as a member of The Student Leadership Program, The Golden Key International Honors Society, The Red Cross Club and The Pre-Health Program. As a professional student, she became involved in The American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), and a member of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association. For the 2014-2015 school year, Neshae was awarded the most valuable student pharmacist as a member of APhA-ASP’s Operation Diabetes. In her new role, Neshae hopes to expand the public’s knowledge of diabetes and the impact it has on the community. She looks forward to increasing awareness, while decreasing disparity. Neshae has also been an advocate for leadership and aspires to start an organization on being an influential leader through self-empowerment, while also utilizing various tools to improve the community. Neshae Ashford will graduate from Hampton University School of Pharmacy in May 2018 with her Doctorate in Pharmacy. Post-graduation, she wants to pursue a career in clinical pharmacy promoting health, wellness and disease prevention.

Andrew P. Howard III is a student at Hampton University School of Pharmacy in his second professional didactic year. He is from the gulf coast of Mobile, Alabama.  During his early college career, he has been fortunate to be a part of Mobile’s Center for Healthy Communities as an intern, and partakes in various community service opportunities. As a member of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists, Andrew serves as the Operation Diabetes Co-Chair. With this new opportunity, he plans to broaden the understanding and knowledge of diabetes and empower the lives of those affected.  Andrew anticipates graduation from Hampton University’s School of pharmacy in 2018. After graduation he plans to pursue a residency followed by working in community pharmacy.

Katelyn

Katelyn Southall is honored to serve as Operation Heart Committee Chair for the Hampton University Chapter of APhA.  Katelyn found an interest in raising awareness for heart disease awareness through personal experience.  At the beginning of her P1 year, just two weeks into the fall semester, Katelyn’s father suffered a heart attack.  Three stents and a lifestyle change later, he is in the best shape of his life.  However, this event changed the dynamic of her family and was a difficult time emotionally.  Katelyn believes that by raising awareness for heart disease awareness and educating the community about the signs, symptoms, and effects of a heart attack she can help prevent other individuals, and families, from having to experience such a traumatic event.

            Katelyn resides in Poquoson, Virginia with her mother, father, brother, and many pets.  She enjoys exercising, particularly running with her dad, during her free time.  She is also a fan of the Tampa Bay Rays baseball team and loves visiting the beach.  Katelyn can be contacted via email at katelyn.southall@my.hamptonu.edu.

Tiffany Marissa Hatcher is 3rd year professional student attending Hampton University School of Pharmacy from Huntsville, Alabama.  As an excited and eager undergraduate student, she was very active on campus by participating in the Pre-Pharmacy Club, the Sophomore Executive Council, becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, as well as a plethora of other organizations and clubs. Upon applying and being accepted into the School of Pharmacy, Tiffany wasted little time in becoming heavily involved in organizations that allowed her to grow academically, professionally, and socially. In addition to currently serving as the International Vice President of American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists, she is a contributory member of Student National Pharmaceutical Association, and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. After graduating with a Doctorate of Pharmacy in May 2017, Tiffany is interested in pursuing either a post graduate residency or fellowship opportunity.

Duc and Isha

Duc Ha has been a student of Hampton University School of Pharmacy since the fall of 2013. He is currently a 3rd year Doctor of Pharmacy Candidate. He was elected as the Co-chair of Generation Rx of the American Pharmacist Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP). Duc Ha is also a member of the Research Committee of Hampton University School of Pharmacy, Student National Pharmaceutical Association, and Rho Chi Honors Society. In addition to his involvement in different organizations and extracurricular activities, Duc Ha is interested in the field of clinical research in pharmacy. This summer, he participated in an internship related to drug delivery research for prostate cancer at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. During his tenure, he conducted research to overcome drug resistance in chemoresistant cancer. He also aspires to become a specialized pharmacist within the hospital setting. Duc Ha will graduate from Hampton School of Pharmacy in May 2017. He hopes to obtain a post-doctoral residency upon graduation.

Isha R. Jariwala is a 3rd year Pharm. D. Candidate at Hampton University School of Pharmacy. She is a native of India, residing in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Since early childhood, she has expressed a keen interest in the field of science, especially in regards to human and medical biology. During her undergraduate years, she took auxiliary courses focusing on biology and psychology, and voluntarily assisted as a research assistant at the Marine Biology Research Laboratory at Old Dominion University. Her passion to learn more about the functions of the human body eventually led Ms. Jariwala to seek additional knowledge about the effects of various drugs within the human body.

Since joining the School Of Pharmacy, Isha has been deeply engaged with several professional organizations including American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) and Hampton University Student Society of Health System Pharmacists (HU-SSHP). Isha currently serves as Generation Rx Chair of American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacist at Hampton University School of Pharmacy. Generation Rx has become an opportunity for her to bring awareness, especially to the youth, about prescription drug overdose and abuse. Ms. Jariwala also serves as Diabetes chair, Treasurer, and Community Service chair of SNPhA, Rho Chi Honor Society, and HU-SSHP chapters, respectively. To keep up with the ever-changing field of pharmacy, she has an immense desire to serve the community with her knowledge and provide people with the utmost pharmaceutical care upon graduation. After attaining her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in May 2017, Isha plans to pursue a post-graduate pharmacy residency in order to further enhance her knowledge and attain advanced clinical skills.

Shanelle and Novia

Shanelle Lauren Covington is a native of Detroit, Michigan and is currently in her second professional year at Hampton University School of Pharmacy. In 2008, after graduating at the top of her high school class, Shanelle received an academic scholarship to attend the University of Michigan, where she went on to major in Brain, Behavior, and Cognitive Science. During her undergraduate years, she discovered a newly found passion for community service. She joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in which she held the position of both Sergeant at Arms and Financial Secretary. She was also a member of Sister2Sister, which is a community service based organization focusing on the empowerment of African American women. In addition, Shanelle continued her childhood passion and joined the University of Michigan Cheerleading team.

            Upon graduating with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Michigan, Shanelle worked as a 6th grade paraprofessional at a local Detroit middle school. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she implemented an academic games team for deserving 7th and 8th graders. Shanelle was extremely passionate about wanting her underprivileged students to realize their full potential. Academic games was a way to make learning fun, while covering a large variety of subjects, including math, English, and history. In conjunction to her work in the school system, Shanelle worked as a pharmacy technician at CVS Pharmacy. This is where she discovered her interest in pharmacy. She now serves as the Co-Chair of “We Are Victorious” HIV AIDS, an initiative of Hampton University’s American Pharmacists Assiciation-Academy of Student Pharmacists. After graduating from pharmacy school in May 2018, Shanelle plans to obtain a residency position.

Novia Watson is a 3rd year pharmacy doctoral candidate from Milton, Delaware, by way of Grand Cayman Islands, now attending Hampton University School of Pharmacy. As an undergraduate student at Hampton, and a Caribbean American citizen, she has honored her heritage by holding the position of Secretary for the Caribbean Pre-Alumni Council for two years. Never one to shy away from an opportunity to lead, during semester breaks, Novia serves as a volunteer, assistant teacher, and camp leader at First State Community Action (FSCA) in Georgetown, Delaware. FSCA is a non-profit organization, which seeks to lessen and eliminate the effects of poverty. Additionally, she works as a mentor for Sister-to-Sister in Hampton, Virginia, which is an organization dedicated to supporting and educating African American women on overcoming obstacles.

Throughout her advancement in the Hampton School of Pharmacy, Novia has served as the Bridging the Gap Chairman and Publicist for the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA), and is an active member of the American Pharmacist Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP). As the “We Are Victorious” HIV/AIDS Co-chair, Novia is focused on generating greater awareness about HIV/AIDS for the Hampton student population, as well as young adults in the Hampton Roads. Novia will receive her Doctorate of Pharmacy from Hampton University in May 2017. Following graduation, Novia plans to pursue a post-residency or fellowship while continuing to pursue her passion and interest in pediatric and adolescent medicine.

Chaya Hairston is a 1st year professional student at Hampton University School of Pharmacy from Long Island, New York. After graduating from high school she attended Hampton University; where she completed a two year pre-pharmacy curriculum. While in undergrad Chaya became involved in numerus clubs and organizations. Some of these organizations were The Pre- Pharmacy Club, Caribbean Pre-Alumni Council, Rose Petal Mentoring and The Student Leadership Training program. Maintaining her enthusiasm for helping others Chaya quickly joined American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP), Chaya serves as the Over the Counter Medicine Safety Chair. With this opportunity she plans to expand her knowledge on these medications, to in turn reach out to local families and raise their awareness on these medications and the proper use of them. Chaya plans to graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) in May of 2019 and would like to work in the pediatric unit of hospital pharmacy.

Chaya Hairston

Maya Edmond is a 1st Year Professional Pharmacy Student at the Hampton University School of Pharmacy from Leesburg, Virginia. As a pre-pharmacy student, Maya was involved on campus with various organizations including the Pre-Pharmacy Club, Women’s Caucus, Chemistry Club, and has served as class secretary since sophomore year. As a professional pharmacy student, Maya is a member of the American Pharmacist Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) and is currently the chair of the Mr. Pharmacy Pageant. Maya’s interest of pharmacy began in high school after being counseled on her post-surgery medications by her community pharmacist. Maya will graduate with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) in May 2019 and plans to pursue a career in compounding pharmacy.

Maya Edmond

Temitope Oyeleke is a second year pharmacy student at Hampton University. She was born and raised in Ibadan, Nigeria but currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland. During her undergraduate studies at Hampton, she was involved in various clubs and organizations including Pre-Pharmacy Club, Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA) and the African Students Association all while working as a part-time Chemistry tutor. As a professional student, she has been involved with her APhA-ASP chapter in various ways and now serves as the Co-Chair of Operation Immunization.

Temitope is a strong believer in community service and the impact it can have. Thus, her interest in Operation Immunization was spiked. Her goals for Operation Immunization include raising overall awareness about immunizations, with a focus on increasing the numbers of immunizations administered. She looks forward to participating in the exciting APhA events as well as growing as a student leader. After earning her Doctorate of Pharmacy in May of 2018, Temitope plans to pursue a residency while continuing to serve and give back to her community.

Temi and Gurpreet

Gurpreet Mann is a second year Pharm. D. Candidate at the Hampton University School of Pharmacy.  She obtained her bachelors of science from Guru Nanak Dev University, also attended Tidewater Community College and Paul D. Campus Community College and became the first person from her family to graduate from college.  She was awarded a scholarship from CVS Caremark in 2015.  Gurpreet likes to volunteer as the Vice President of the Hampton University chapter of the Red Cross Club and is the co-chair of Operation Immunization under APhA-ASP.  Her goal is to raise awareness for vaccinations and preventative care in the community.  She presently resides in Chesapeake with her husband, daughter and son and enjoys gardening, cooking, reading short articles, teaching science to kids and playing badminton.  After graduation she wants to pursue a career as a research pharmacist.

Dr. Parker

Dr. Shanea D. Parker is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice for Hampton University School of Pharmacy (HUSOP).  She obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2004 from Hampton University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Parker has been a practicing registered pharmacist for 11 years. She has practiced as a retail, long- term care and clinical pharmacist. Dr. Parker serves as an ambulatory care preceptor,   where her primary practice site is the Maryview Foundation Clinic.  At HUSOP, Dr. Parker currently serves as the Faculty Advisor for APHA-ASP and a member of the Academic Enrichment Program, the Curriculum Committee, the Academic and Admissions Committee, and the Professionalism and Grievance Committee. Her affiliations include the American Pharmacists Association, Virginia Pharmacists Association, American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and Kappa Epsilon.
